THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central took on Houston County on Friday on the court. Despite staying competitive, both the boys and girls fell short against the Bears.
“Everybody won some game. Nobody is getting swept too badly and overall we’re competing,” said Central’s head tennis coach Brian Bellamy. Bellamy went on to say that the theme of this season so far has been just that. The ability to stay competitive, but unable to secure the win.
The girls were very competitive, taking two courts against Houston County. Heali Patel took her singles match 6-2 and 6-4 to secure a victory. He performance has prompted Bellamy to move her from the number three spot to number two.
“Heali Patel has been real dependable for us this season as a singles player,” Bellamy said. “She’s won several region matchups as a singles player.”
Kayley Yawn and Martha Roberts were able to pull out a victory in their doubles match, but it wasn’t enough to put the Yellow Jackets on top as they took the loss in an extremely close contest, 3-2.
The boys struggled a bit more, getting swept in all five of their matches. The number two doubles team was able to pull out the first set against Houston, but dropped the next two and took the loss.
